As the chairman of Diabetes UK Oldham Voluntary Support Group, Barry gives awareness talks to the community, whilst also providing practical support via home visits to those not only in the Oldham area, but anybody in the UK that needs his support. The voluntary group aims to provide advice, awareness and training to those affected by diabetes, helping individuals to manage their condition and lead a fuller and healthier life.
Barry's diabetes group holds a monthly social and informative meeting every first Wednesday of the month at The Link Centre, Union Street, Oldham OL1 1DZ at 7:30pm. The meeting is free to all and anybody is welcome to attend.
He is also part of the NICE national steering group on diabetes prevention, and sits in on the North East Manchester Diabetes Network, along with diabetes consultants and specialist nurses.
Barry is available via a telephone helpline 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and aims to give people the information they need to help manage their diabetes. All his services are free of charge and he is always at the end of the phone for anybody who requires his advice. Barry understands that every person with diabetes is different and knows the importance of keeping it well controlled.
